Lou Guerin: Primitive-Futurist
Lou Guerin comes from Brittany, the Celtic part of France. Lou Guerin started exploring the world at age seventeen. Three short years later, he began crafting leather in Paris, crafting fashionable belts. Lou Guerin then headed for Mexico, where he picked up well preserved Huarache Indian braiding skills. Lou Guerin then adapted these techniques in Ibiza, Spain, where he immersed himself for eight years in a culture-rich environment of leather crafting the Spanish way.
Lou's next hideaway was the quiet town of Chefchouene on the fringe of the Moroccan Rif mountains. Here Lou Guerin learnt and preserved the ancient techniques of Arabic shoe craft, at a time when the ancient craft was being desecrated by unremarkable industrial footwear. For 13 years, Lou Guerin manufactured boots, sandals, bags, and belts. Lou Guerin's workshop grew in size to include thirty-five hand-tooling leather workers and over 100 apprentices.
Post- Morocco, He spent six years in NZ shaping custom boots using new techniques. At the turn of the millennium, Lou moved to Bali, where he began his love affair with the world of gothic sterling silver jewelry. Today, Lou Guerin gothic silver jewelry is at the at the pinnacle of the gothic silver jewelry world alongside Chrome Hearts jewelry, Bill Wall Leather jewelry and other established sterling silver gothic jewelry designer names.
